In the College of the Canyons The former Chancellor of the State addresses aspiring leaders

The veteran leader of higher education Dr. Jack Scott and former State legislator , he visited College of the Canyons on Friday, talking to applicants to leaders of the University.

Scott was the keynote of the education of leadership on Friday in the programme of action (LEAP) class. Former Chancellor of California community colleges spent two hours sharing lessons hard made in leadership with LEAP participants during a special breakfast at the Dr. Dianne g. hook event. Van University Center.

"College of the Canyons is an extraordinary place, which has experienced phenomenal growth, and the people here are always excited," said Scott. "It's great to come and share a little of my own experience with this group here. I have a feeling of energy and spreads "."

"Jack is the only person in California to serve as President of the University community, legislator, and Chancellor in the State," he said. "His influence on the growth and development of our schools in the community cannot be underestimated. As a system, would not be what we are today without their leadership, vision, and focus on doing what is best for students "."

Before serving as Chancellor and leader largest system in the nation for higher education 2008-2012, Scott served 12 years in the California legislature. He saw 146 bills became law during two terms in the Assembly and two terms in the Senate.

Scott began his career at community colleges in California in 1973 when he became Dean of instruction at Orange Coast College. He served as President of Cypress College 1978-1987 and Pasadena City College from 1987 to 1995. Currently he is a scholar in residence at the Claremont Graduate University, where he obtained his doctorate in history of America.

Founded in 2008, the LEAP was created to develop leadership skills among managers of the University, faculty and classified staff.
